Maryland Transportation Police Officer Duke G. Aaron III died Tuesday afternoon after being injured when a pickup truck smashed his cruiser from behind on Route 50 west of the Bay Bridge. Officer Duke G. Aaron III was struck just before 10 a.m. while sitting in his cruiser on the right shoulder of westbound Route 50 near St. Margarets Road after issuing a traffic citation. Both Aaron and the truck's driver were flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore as authorities shut down westbound lanes of the main artery across the Bay Bridge, backing up traffic as much as 10 miles. Aaron went into cardiac arrest at 11:40 a.m., Doctors stabilized him and brought him to the operating room, but he died at 1:02 p.m.

The Pasadena resident -- who celebrated his 29th birthday on July 5 -- was a 10-year veteran of the force recognized for his dedication to his work. Aaron had been named the department's Officer of the Year three times -- in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Transportation authority officials also said he once prevented a woman from committing suicide at the Bay Bridge.

The other driver "has an extensive driving record in the state of Maryland, and he should not have been on the road," McLhinney said. Authorities did not release details about the driver's record Tuesday.

Duke Aaron is survived by his wife Jennifer Aaron.

I always told you that I would never catch up with you in age no matter how old you got. Sadly I am
eating my words. Thank you for making my wish come true for my 29th birthday. The snow and the
entire experience at Ski Liberty was what I always envisioned. I got to sit by the fireplace and drink
my hot chocolate. The only thing missing was you. I love you Snookums.

My Snookums,

Well the holidays are approaching once again. I have decided to try to get back to our normal routine of celebrating. I say that now, but who knows when the time comes. I am still not ready to decorate though. I still can't undo what you put away in 03. The weather is changing quick. The feeling of snow is in the air. You loved snow. I miss you more than anyone can imagine and I love you more than anything in the
whole wide world.

Not a minute goes by that you are not on my mind. You have been gone for over a year now and I still
find myself saying "wow, I can't believe this has happened". I miss you more than anyone can ever imagine. Please give me a sign that I am doing the right thing with the court for you and us. I just want closure for you, me, our families, friends, and co-workers. No amount of time served will ever bring you back nor will it ever be enough for me. I love you. Sleep tight my love.

I am needing your strength now more than ever. You have been gone for over 7 months. That is 7 months to long yet every day, month and year that goes by is one more day, month and year closer to being with you again. You will always be my world Duke. I LOVE YOU.

Hey babe,

Well today is my 28th birthday. Can you believe the first person to call me was Stephanie? Mark and I have decided to just go to Pizza Hut for my moms sake. We don't want any cake or big deal made out of our birthday this year. It hasn't been such a good day for me so far. I will never get anymore cards from you that say "to my wife on her birthday". I am however one year closer to being with you. I love you and miss you so much. Continue to keep me strong.

Hey my Snookums,

Please make sure I have a peaceful week this week. My birthday is Friday and I honestly don't want to
do anything for it. My brother doesn't want to either. My mom is a little upset with both of us. All I know
it is one more year down and one more year closer to being with you.

I love you so much and I miss you every minute of every hour.

Hey babe,

We are in for a long haul with all the court stuff. I know with your support that I will get through all of this.
I miss you more than any one can imagine and I love you more than anything in the world. Our furry babies miss you too. Sleep tight my love.

Just when I think I am doing good, I get knocked back a couple of steps. Today has been rough at work thinking back at you at the hospital. The guys I work with are so compassionate yet they feel helpless in the fact that they don't know what to say to make it all better. Just having them near me when I need to talk helps. Hold me tight and keep me strong my love.

Hey babe,
Rick and Brian hung your name up in front of our house in blue lights. It looks really neat. The sad looking little Christmas tree is decorated, but you are missing. I miss you more and more each day. I just want you to come home Snookums. I miss your chocolate chip cookies. I miss everything.

Well the Christmas season is here. You left for hunting a year ago yesterday. I remember hearing your truck go down the street and calling you right away to tell you I already missed you and how I wished you would come back. As I look at all the houses decorated, I am sad because ours isn't. There will never be a Lampoon's Christmas around here again. I cherish the diagram on the fridge you drew right before you took the lights down last year. I love you Snookums.

Hey babe,

There is not a minute that goes by that you are not in my thoughts. I miss you more than anything. This Fall has been one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen. That is probably because you are up in heaven and put in charge of the weather. If this is so, are we in for a lot of snow :) I love you snookums more than anything in the whole wide world.

Snookums,

Well I made it through yesterday. Happy 4th Wedding Anniversary. Instead of being in Williamsburg for our anniversary, you are in heaven. Our one and only vacation for the
year and it was spent at the grave yard. I have been robbed of spending the rest of my
life with you and celebrating more anniversaries and vacations. Just remember how much
I love you and can't wait until it is my time to be with you once again. We will be long overdue for a vacation.

All my love,
